»Posted by on Sep 2, 2019 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

If you’re looking to install a concrete driveway in your home, you have at least two good choices to go about that. You may use concrete or asphalt and the main material in building the driveway. Of course, there are other choices but those two are the most popular ones. Your other choices would be gravel and brick pavers, among many others.

When choosing which between asphalt and concrete driveway is best for you, it’s highly recommended that you consider not just your budget but your location’s environmental factors as well. It’s important to make the right choice now as you may not have huge problems with maintenance and repair later on.

Should You Go for a Concrete Driveway?

Concrete tends to last longer than asphalt but an asphalt driveway is cheaper to install. But then, asphalt requires higher maintenance than concrete although generally, it’s simpler to repair. If you are located in an area where the winter season can get really harsh, your concrete driveway may suffer substantial damage, especially if you’re using harmful de-icing products. If you live in an area where the temperature fluctuates considerably, then an asphalt driveway may be a better choice for you because it can flex and adapt. Concrete, on the other hand, is more rigid.

When it comes to foundation, asphalt and concrete driveways require a solid foundation. With that said, they have to be prepared by no less than the experts in the respective field. Your driveway, no matter what material you used for it, is only as good as what it has underneath

Is an Asphalt Driveway Better?

Many contractors would say that a concrete driveway is better than asphalt because the former is stronger and more durable. However, asphalt is not without advantages. In reality, asphalt can be as tough as concrete when laid out correctly. What’s more, it’s cheaper to install than concrete. It’s a good choice if you’re looking at a fairly large project.

If pricing is a big factor for you, you might want to consider an asphalt driveway instead. On an estimate, basic asphalt driveways will cost you between $2 and $5 for every square foot. That’s about $1,800 for a standard-size two-car asphalt driveway for residential homes. Of course, if you want stamped patterns then the price will go up considerably.

How Much Does it Cost to Install a Concrete Driveway?

If you want to compare how much a concrete driveway will cost you, it is somewhere between $3 and $10 for every square foot. A standard-size two-car residential driveway may set you back some $3,600. That’s only for regular concrete. If you want to customize the design of your driveway and add more decorative elements to it, then it may cost you up to $9,000.

For that amount, your concrete driveway will last you up to three decades. On the other hand, asphalt driveway would last you around 20 years. But then again, the proper upkeep and maintenance of your driveway play a very crucial role in its longevity.
